TRIAL TALK
A way for patients to consult lymphoma and CLL specialists
about clinical trials ... as part of a second opinion
 

Objective:  To increase how often patients consider trials with the help of specialists who are knowledgeable about trials -- who will have first-hand information about the patient's clinical status, needs, and preferences.

Method: to provide a list of specialists by Name and Region order who agree to discuss trials as part of a second opinion.  The list will contain a link to the specialist's CV (if available on the web), their institution, region, TRIAL TALK confirmation, specialty, and phone contact.   Specialists from regions outside the US are also welcome.

Rationale:  Making additional progress against lymphoma requires an increase in the participate rate of patients with the disease.   Reflecting the promise for progress,  there are 1,480 open trials seeking lymphoma and CLL patients in order to test new approaches to treatment.  The participation rate in trials must keep pace with emerging insights, promising new study drugs, and related ideas.  

 

Comment: Trials for investigational agents of a different class are especially important to consider when your treatment history has been intense … and more of same would be higher risk because of cumulative toxicities, or when the lymphoma has developed resistance to standard therapies.

Why consider trials? 

Testing new study protocols - especially when done with the assessment of tumor samples - is the basis for progress against lymphoma. 

Importantly, participating in a clinical trial can also match well with your treatment goals or unique and unmet clinical needs.  While lymphoma is often responsive to standard chemotherapy and radiotherapy, there remains an urgent need to: 

 * To increase the cure rate -- and to cure more types of lymphoma
 * To improve the duration and quality of remissions
 * To overcome treatment-resistance
 * To decrease the short- and long-term toxicity of treatments overall
 * To identify who is likely to benefit from a treatment ... and who will experience only unproductive toxicity ...   
 
      Due to the rapidly emerging insights into the biology of lymphoma, the potential to make progress and to benefit directly from study participation has never been greater!   Here also we provide easy-to-use tools to assist patients, caregivers, and oncologists in finding trials -requiring no registration steps or the disclosure of personal information:
